How can I get discovered?

Play at any place you can get booked(local shows, at your school, open mics) get your name out at live shows, Record some tracks and make a CD to hand out to anyone you think will listen to it. Use the internet. A lot of people come up over the web these days. I live in LA and a lot of people here do this type of stuff and some of the lucky ones get recognized.
